Another character design sketch for untitled barbarian project. This one is called Hecuna Valdere(as you can see). She’s a snake ninja. She’s kind of a mashup of Makie from Blade of the Immortal, Benisato from Ninja Scroll, and Yuri from King of Fighters.
I did this as a warmdown from some writing this morning, so I feel reasonably productive today, given that I have to work the graveyard shift tonight. Now I’m either going to go watch Videodrome again, or read Cosmopolis for the first time. Funny story about me and Delillo. I actually was given his underworld book or whatever it’s called when I was in high school by my step-dad. But his whole reasoning behind it, was more just some random book he saw in the airport whatever, and he was kind of a perpetual dick to me through most of my childhood, and then he cheated on my mom, so on and so forth—so I had this baggage about reading Delillo so I never did until college when I had to read Mao II for an American Lit class.
That book blew me away. And I think I’ve made subtle references to it in more than a few of my comic collages weirdly. But I’ve been scared to read more Delillo for fear it wouldn’t measure up to that experience, and because of the whole stubborn not wanting to enjoy what my stepdad gave me all those years back. It’s like that..where was that story from—I think during the vietman war they gave small pox vaccinations or something to some of the villages as they passed through them, and then the villagers just chopped off the limbs(for real though, some strange country invades my land and starts injecting people with shit—I’d be paranoid too). Anyways I feel like that story probably isn’t even true, and it’s from one of the batman movies. I feel like my Delillo situation is a lot like that.
But since Cronenburg has made a movie I want to see on the book, I’ll use that as my excuse/filter to do the damn thing. Maybe it will kick off a thing. Who knows.
Soundtrack this morning:
Austra and Denzel Curry.
